Vampire Weekend and the model who appeared on the cover of the band’s 2010 album Contra, Ann Kirsten Kennis, were embroiled in a lawsuit when Kennis claimed that her image was used without her permission. Allegations of forged release forms were thrown about. It was all unfortunate, possibly even more so because it was surrounding my favorite album of last year. It’s nice to see there’s a resolution. Paste Magazine said:
Kennis’ lawsuit came shortly after Contra’s release, alleging that photographer Tom Brody provided her Polaroid image to the band without her consent and also forged a release form. Court records showed that Brody was paid $5,000 for the image’s license. Details of the settlement, which was reached Aug. 11, were not immediately disclosed.
The court, however, has not dismissed a counter-claim filed on behalf of Vampire Weekend and XL Records against Brody. The photographer is now defending himself after his attorneys withdrew from his case in June, mainly due to his failure to pay legal bills.
