In heavy rotation: Tito Ramsey

Tito Ramsey’s background and education as a jazz and soul musician lend well to the latest direction he’s taken his music: electronic pop. He’s set to put out his third album, an EP called Hi Lo, on January 10. It’s a strong album based around his meticulously-crafted beats and charisma as a soul man.

Throughout Hi Lo, it shouldn’t surprise anyone if Ramsey said his biggest inspiration was Michael Jackson. Jackson’s influence seems to come through especially on the first track, “Hi Time.” That song also has a great chorus that you want to dance along to, even if it’s a kiss-off. His song “So Obvious” sounds like he’s splitting the differences between Chromeo and Justin Timberlake with a strong DIY ethos that pervades much of his music.

Tito Ramsey next plays at the Crocodile on Sunday, December 18 with Sports, Speaker Speaker and Glitterbang (7pm doors, 21+, $7 tickets available here). He’ll go on first and get the crowd ready to dance, which will surely continue throughout the evening.
