The hip hop trio Das Racist has a new video for their single “Brand New Dance,” the second single from their album Relax.
This song opens with its weird, spaced-out chorus (“It’s a brand new dance, give us all your money, everybody, love everybody…”) and the verses have some of the same free-flow word association that feels random and like Heems and Kool AD are just waking up, but that Das Racist does as well as anyone. The production comes from Patrick Wimbley, of the band Chairlift. In one verse, they call their sound in this song “slacker rock rap.” Perhaps, but they still make you think they’re both slackers and the smartest people in the room.
