Last week, we profiled the punk/hip hop group Don’t Talk to the Cops!, who just celebrated the release of their excellent new album Let’s Quit with a party at the Baltic Room on Saturday night. About the first single, “Swag Treated Treated Swag”:
The first single from Let’s Quit was released last week. It’s different from a typical single in that it’s only 94 seconds long. It’s called “Swag Treated Treated Swag” was inspired by the dialect from their friend, Chicago producer/DJ Hollywood Holt. [djblesOne] explained, “He’s from Chicago and they say ‘treated’ as a way to say ‘gotcha’ or whatever. But it was also at the same time that saying ‘swag’ was really popular and people were saying it after everything. We noticed that he would say them both. If he said one, he’d have to say them both together. So if one of us said one of the words, someone else would have to say the other one.”
Now that single has a great new remix from our friends in Viper Creek Club (who are also releasing a new EP called Hot Lights next week). It doesn’t sound much like the original and throws away most of its song structure, but it’s also immediately more aggressive. I like it as a nice companion to its source.
Viper Creek Club’s CD release party for Hot Lights is next Thursday, February 16 at Neumos with Tito Ramsey, Sports and The Fascination Movement, $8, 21+; Don’t Talk to the Cops next plays at the SXSeattle party at the Tractor Tavern on Saturday, February 18 with The Young Evils, My Goodness and TacocaT, 21+, $10 tickets available here.
