Every festival seems to have one band who is hitting the zeitgeist at the right moment and will invariably be too big for the stage they are playing on. This year at Capitol Hill Block Party, Lemolo is likely to be that band. Playing on the Vera Stage on Saturday evening, just as Grimes should be finishing up her set on the main stage, it could prove difficult to wade one’s way through the crowd to see Lemolo, but should be well worth it. Lemolo just released their debut album called The Kaleidoscope, just a couple of weeks ago (already the top selling album at Sonic Boom), and they sold out two nights at Columbia City Theater to celebrate its release.
Kendra Cox and Megan Grandall are Lemolo and they make lovely dream pop that sounds much more expansive than you’d think any two people are capable of. Grandall has a great voice that suits the melodies she and Cox create, particularly on singles like “Letters” and “Whale Song.”
