This just came into my inbox and felt worthy of sharing. Twenty-one local artists have donated an original, previously unheard song for a new platform called Protosong, to help raise money for clean water in developing countries. The Young Evils, Lemolo, Noah Gunderson, The Cellar Door, Motopony, Big Sur and several others have contributed songs for a playlist that you can listen to now, and download on October 18, with a PWYC (pay what you can) model. It’s explained thusly:
Here’s how Protosong works: We asked 21 Seattle artists to donate to us a song that’s never been heard before. We compiled those songs into a playlist that will be available for purchase at protosong.com from Oct. 3 to 17. On Oct. 18, everyone who pays at least one dollar will be able to download the playlist. We’ll then take all the money we raise — our goal for this playlist is $25,000 — and give it to the nonprofit organization One Day’s Wages and to the artists we partner with. Our pay as you wish model has proven successful for us in the past, and we’re sure this time will be no different.
